Our family recently heard a sermon entitled “Biblical Responsibility to
Make a Difference”. It was about a pastor from an Independent Baptist church
in MD that organized a day for pastors from every state in the U.S. to
participate in giving out Bibles to the Congress at the Capitol. They had a
reprint produced of the original KJV of the Aiken Bible that Congress printed in
the 1700’s with the name of each Congress person engraved on the front.
Congress printed these Bible’s originally in the 1700’s to give out to each home
to have, according to the sermon. There was a tremendous turnout of
involvement. Every state had representatives but three.
The pastors were amazed at how open and receptive the Congress people were
to receiving the Bible’s. The pastors prayed with them and they were very
touched, asking for more prayer. The pastors even handed out tracts and other
Bibles to each staff member in each office. Here were some of the comments the
pastors heard:
“We have a lot of opposition and fight a lot of fights, pray for our
strength.”
“We need your prayer!”
“Please pray for each of us to have wisdom, God’s wisdom.”
“Get busy leading people to Christ so we can have more people vote
properly!”
“Pray for God to raise up people in Christian churches all over America to
serve up here with us.”
“Pray for our families to have strength; it is difficult for them when we
are slandered.”
“We need more pastors up here all the time!”
“You’ll never realize the encouragement this has given us.”
“There is a portion of us that are Christians here however, keep us in your
prayers.”
Our family wanted to share this in hopes that you, and especially your
children, would write letters to your state Congress men and women personally.
We know and are sure that many of you already pray for our political leaders,
and probably even specifically. Would you consider letting them know that you
do? The Congress people were so encouraged to know that someone was earnestly
praying for them. It gave them much strength. If we all covered our individual
states it would be quite powerful, don’t you think?!
